Bas invites you into a world where everyone is welcome to occupy space, invent themselves, or rest for a moment in the many loving arms. Born in Zutphen (NL) in 1977, Bas Kosters has been active in the realms of art, fashion, and social causes for over twenty years. Since breaking onto the international scene in 2003, he has built an original oeuvre filled with radiant, endearing, and sometimes unsettling figures. Whether tapestries, dolls, costumes, installations, drawings, or ceramics, his work nimbly broaches difficult emotions, through subtle humor and striking text. Here in Enschede, where his artistic career got its start at the AKI art academy, we’re proud to present the first solo retrospective of Kosters’ work. It is inspired by a poem written by the designer, titled 4th house. The 4th house is an immaculate yet suffocating place. The verses dissect the human body into fragments and reassemble them into a new form.
