Party City, Eat Your Heart Out ; Germanier PFW SS25

It’s hard to believe that Germanier could pull yet another trick out of his hat which meets the grandiosity and artistry of his exhibition at this year’s closing ceremonies of the Olympic Games in Paris. And although not quite as impressive (per-say) as the monumentous, billowing, VHS-tape cape that pianist Alain Roche wore as he performed the Olympic Hymn on a piano suspended in the sky; this collection was nonetheless fantastical in its own regard.. Germanier underscored his artistic signature by committing so completely to his brand of playful extravagance- and while perhaps less grandiose than his last feat, this collection exemplifies a range of interpretation within it’s own aesthetic universe that solidifies his unmistakable artistic signature and capacity for world-building within.

As if Germanier would give us anything less, this season’s looks exemplified the usual panoply of upcycled ribbon, glitter, glimmer, shimmer, and shine- with a cerebral twist! Each look (although, look seems too small a word for what’s sent onto this runway) embodies the different zodiacs and their celestial contemporaries. A dress made most entirely of Havaianas flip-flops is leaning carnival-couture in its hodge-podgey-ness, yet remains distinctly fun. Think, if Bob Mackie dressed The Muppets off Broadway. On LSD. In the best way. The absurdity of his technique used to create these playful characters, in conjunction with the uppity cloud of Fashion week’s who’s who makes for a refreshingly light and fun show. Streamers and ribbons are strayed around the venue floor, catching on heels, as we clobber out and head to the next show.
