Powerful Goth Goddesses at Rick Owens PFW A/W 23 by Leticia Dare

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Rick Owens once again proved why he is a master of dark glamour with his Fall/Winter 23/24 collection. The show was a true spectacle, with towering goth goddesses strutting down a raised metal scaffold runway as the fog machines billowed and electronic beats by Peaches throbbed in the background.

The collection was marked by sheer proportions, with cowl and donut poufs draped from the shoulders and waist in muted tone matt sequins. Coats with raised collars resembling bat wing peaks were crafted from RWS (responsible wool standard) certified felted pure wool. The Japanese indigo selvedge denim skirts, dresses, and donuts were shredded by lasers to produce a decayed frayed effect, which was both innovative and captivating.

What really stood out about this collection was its return to the darker side of the Rick Owens brand. The designer drew inspiration from the war in Ukraine, which he saw as a testament to the resilience and dignity of the human spirit in the face of aggression. This translated into a collection that exuded formality, sobriety, and moments of delicacy that served as reminders of what is at stake.

The show was a tour de force, with every look building on the last to reveal higher slits, bolder shapes, and dramatic fringing. The result was one of the best collections that Rick Owens has produced to date, one that was simply exquisite. It was a thrilling experience to witness such a masterful display of fashion, and one that will be remembered for years to come.
