Dear Shaded Viewers,
For Laura and Deanna Fanning, history is the lens through which they dreamed of their latest Spring-Summer 2023 collection. It’s a collaboration of fantastical narratives, Flemish tapestries seen at Musée de Cluny in Paris, and the manipulation of color and light, gravity and proportions.
The silhouettes as such include the use of lace, silk georgettes, stocking nylon, and jacquards all doubled up through the skilled art of draping, embracing a movement that considers how the body and fabric occupy space. Organza and chiffon were used in flavorful colors, while chenille and lurex formed halter tops and elevated spiraled minis and paneled flares. It was a dance of the feminine energy, the heroine energy and it is an energy that keeps us in momentum for the fire needed to endure the cold while we wait for spring.
