Dear Diane and Shaded Viewers,
I’m doing a short series on five designers who’ve been designing professionally for 5 years or less, and whom I think will do some interesting things this year… Today I’d like to tell you about Anton Belinskiy.
Anton Belinskiy is passionate about his country and you can see this in his optimistic though subversive garments. He has become known to take elements of traditional dress and streetwear to create his considered and complex aesthetic. Belinskiy’s SS15 collection used simple ties for both decoration and function; giving a sweetness but also sinister feeling in their reminder of hospital gowns. The coloured hand-print is made of sign-language symbols of phrases from films like ‘you are beautiful’ and ‘you are loved’. This collection won him the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Prize in November last year in Kiev, making Belinskiy one of the most important Ukrainian designers today. He will present his new collection during Paris fashion week in March at More Dash Showroom.
