GERTRUD & GEORGE – TEXT BY PHILIPPE POURHASHEMI

Dear Shaded Viewers,

I recently discovered Gertrud & George in Paris and immediately responded to the sleek design and high quality of their bags. The Swiss brand, founded in 2001, is currently increasing its global presence, finding points of sale in England, South Korea and Japan. The name of the line is in fact a tribute to Gertrude Stein and George Sand, two celebrated writers whose unique approach challenged gender binaries and sexual identity. Hovering between stark geometric shapes and a finer sense of detail, the collection started with an Overnighter before slowly developing into the Esquire Suite, including six different models. The Overnighter can be envisaged as the ultimate travel bag, perfectly thought through for cosmopolitan lives. Designed in Switzerland and manufactured in Europe, Gertrud & George only works with full hides to design lightweight, sturdy and essential bags. God bless Swiss simplicity.

Best,

Philippe
