Dear Shaded Viewers and Diane,
Intimate and gentle, soothing and reliable: Christophe Lemaire's clothes lounge on the male form like mellow caresses of virgin wool, lightweight and precise. He designs pieces to be combined freely, functional and graceful, the ones he himself would like to wear. There are garments as soft as pajamas to be kept on all day long, and a pale grey ensemble delightfully inspired by David Byrne's boxlike big suit, the one that jumped on his shoulders as fluid as jelly back in 1984. There's a touch of China with its meticulous ease, workwear and uniforms, Mao denim jackets and delicate sleepers, the crispy, confidential feel of ultra white rice paper. And California is there too, summed up as it would be in an iconic Hockney pool: watered and bleached, straight lines and a dusty rose, with an underlying, liquid freshness and its balmy freedom.
Later,
Silvia
