Antonio Monda and John Turturro talk about John’s favorite films at the Museum of the Moving Image – Persol Magnificent Obsessions Exhibition in NYC

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Last night at the opening of the Persol Magnificent Obsessions: 30 stories of craftsmanship in film, currently at the Museum of the Moving Image, Antonio Monda sat down with John Turturro. John Turturro chose 4 films that he's been obsessed about all his life. They showed clips of the films and then the two of them discussed why John chose that particular film.

The films that John Turturro singled out were: Brute Force (1947) film directed by Jules Dassin starring Burt Lancaster. Turturro is obsessed with the actor Burt Lancaster. He loves the way he moves and acts. The second film was  The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1939) Directed by William Dieterie written by Victor Hugo and starring Charles Laughton, Maureen O'Hara and Cedric Hardwicke. The third film was "Cafe de La Gare" by Bertrand Blier starring Gerard Depardieu and Patrick Dewaere. This was the film that started the acting career of Gerard Depardieu. Finally, the last film was the one that won Federico Fellini his 4th oscar, 1973 Amarcord starring Bruno Zanin, Pupella Maggio, Armando. The entire event was pure enchantment. I also have to admit that I've always adored Turturro the first film where he caught my eye was Five Corners in 1987.
