AltaRomAltaModa – by David Gil

Santo Spirito in Sassia, Rome. AltaRomAltaModa decided to welcome the rich and powerful as well as the privileged few in the Santo Spirito de Sassia complex in order to present still surviving Roman Alta Moda. Ironically, the building was commissioned by Saxon King Ira in 727 A.D. where the poor and the "prioretty" (abandoned and illegitimate babies) were entrusted to the doctors of the Hospital Santo Spirito. Probably a psychoanalytical unconscious choice revealing conscious realities of the archaic state of a not yet abandoned legitimate haute couture, of its artisans, houses, designers and creative know-how.
Nevertheless, it is a re-comforting to know that in order to witness Roman Spring Summer 09 collections, the happy few have to penetrate the majestic marble door attributed to Andrea Bregne called "Portale del Paraiso" (the Gate to Paradise). Whether in heaven or hell, Roman faithful to struggling Couture are still proudly applauding exit after exit local fashion creations which were sublimated by 7th century Carlo Moratta
