NYFF52: OPENING WEEKEND EXPLODES WITH EXCITEMENT, NOSTALGIA AND CONSCIENCE

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Film Society of Lincoln Center's New York Film Festival exceeded the kind of excitement that we have come to expect.

David Fincher's GONE GIRL wrecked my nerves, which were calmed by a few cocktails at the opening night party returning after a number of years to Tavern on the Green. Jean-Luc Godard revealed to me a truly new cinema and Kathryn Bigelow premiered her PSA, titled LAST DAYS, and in three minutes we feel the horror of elephant poaching as she connects the sale of ivory to terrorist activity. I have been attending the festival for over 30 years and every year a new chill of excitement and wonder runs up my spine. As the tag line says, 'FILM LIVES HERE".
