SEWMOD: A Contemporary Language of Eastern Craftsmanship

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Founded in China by designer Wu Qiuxiong in 2016, SEWMOD approaches clothing with remarkable restraint. The collection presented in Paris reflects a design language built around clean lines, careful proportions, and an appreciation for materials that quietly reveal their character over time.

Natural fabrics, hand-dyed and handwoven textiles, and precise construction define the brand’s work. Every detail feels considered, yet nothing asks for attention. The garments rely on texture, balance, and craftsmanship rather than decoration, allowing the quality of the materials to speak for themselves.

SEWMOD draws from traditional Eastern craftsmanship while placing it in a contemporary context. The result feels calm and timeless, shaped by patience, precision, and a belief that clothing should accompany everyday life with honesty.

What particularly caught my attention was how this ready-to-wear collection, while designed to be worn every day, carries a quiet language of symbols, good-luck charms, and positive energy. These details are subtle, yet they give the garments a deeper emotional dimension.

To better understand this approach, I invite you to watch my exclusive interview with Wu Qiuxiong, where he speaks about his handmade, genderless ready-to-wear collection presented during Paris Fashion Week. Special thanks to Xing Hu for the invitation and for being such a thoughtful translator throughout the conversation.

Thank you Wu for my new amulet. I’ll wear it for the rest of the summer.

Yours digitally,
Pedro
