On the first week of September, OG explored Hong Kong’s fashion landscape for seven days without a break, except for some natural smoothies at le jus (Pacific Place Mall – Admiralty). Their papaya-coconut milk-peach gum smoothie is highly recommended. I took some serious time to visit the unmissable M+ museum of art. The sanctified building, designed by Herzog & de Meuron, calls for at least a half day to truly experience and tour the space. Walking through the hallways before entering the huge galleries, one feels a rare sense of compression.
After a few days shuttling between sterilized flagship stores, colossal department stores, and a few multi-brand stores, I began to comprehend retail. Selected images will convey even more about these types of spatial contrasts.
Good News! Up and coming local and international brands continue to find new ways of installing concept stores in Hong Kong SAR and Mainland China using an equivalent European format. It seems this approach is increasingly appealing to both regional consumers and global visitors. They are testing and adapting non-stop, so pay attention!
Blessed is OG to have met prestigious local buyers, spiritual fashion designers, and to have attended the ceremony for the 15th annual Redress Design Award. Here at the trade show – Centrestage 2025 – I had plenty of time to make genuine contact with several organizations–something rare. That necessary business-minded momentum to meet-and-greet is typically thwarted at fashion weeks, due to representatives and clients being overbooked with shows and seduced by endless presentations. Check out one fav show here.
Let me be clear: my week in Hong Kong was hardly about entertainment. Those doses were pursued during personal time. Rather, it was about making new commercial connections. Reindorsing we at OG believe that a fashion brand is aimless without parallel investment and a growing mission.
A year ago, before visiting Hong Kong for the first time, I said, “During this trip we will enrich our independent research with sustainable nutrients, trusting to meet those rewriting heritage while satisfying our souls through fashion design.”
That wish came true, again.
Thank you all for entrusting me with this opportunity!
