Kim Jones homage to Fendi’s Centenary: A Fusion of Heritage and Modernity

Dear Shaded Viewers,

“The foundations of how women dress today and, in many ways, how we think are in the 1920s. It’s about modernity in style and attitude,” says Kim Jones, Artistic Director of Couture and Womenswear. “1925 has so many milestone moments. It is the founding year of FENDI, but also the year of the Art Deco exhibition in Paris – The International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts – from where the name is taken. Virginia Woolf’s Mrs Dalloway and F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby are also published. There’s modernism in dress, design, decoration and thought. We approached the collection with these things in mind, as an amalgam of epochs, moods and techniques – then and now.”

Fendi’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection marks a significant milestone as the iconic fashion house approaches its 100th anniversary. Artistic director Kim Jones has crafted a collection that seamlessly blends the brand’s rich history with contemporary sensibilities, creating a narrative that spans a century of fashion evolution. Drawing inspiration from the roaring 1920s, the era of Fendi’s inception, the collection addresses the needs of the modern woman while celebrating its legacy through a tribute to founder Adele Fendi.

The reimagined Mamma Baguette bag, now larger and more versatile, serves as a tangible connection to the house’s matriarchal roots, emphasizing female empowerment. This collection showcases a harmonious fusion of couture and ready-to-wear, combining hand-crafted elements with machine-made precision. Silhouettes reminiscent of the 1920s transition into structured pieces inspired by later decades, all while prioritizing “movement, lightness, excellence, and ease.”

In a surprising yet fitting collaboration with Red Wing, Fendi introduces rugged footwear that grounds the collection’s more delicate pieces. As Fendi enters its centennial year, this collection serves as both a celebration of its storied past and a bold statement about its future.
