Copenhagen Fashion Week was Filled with Sustainability, Innovation and Endless Style

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Copenhagen Fashion Week SS25 proved to be a dynamic platform for Scandinavian design. The five day event saw designers unveil their Spring/Summer 25 collections, which embodied the region’s renowned commitment to sustainability, innovation, and style. With a fresh perspective and undeniable talent, these Nordic brands are making significant strides on the international fashion stage, rivalling the established powerhouses of Paris, London, and Milan.

A core theme of the week was the continued emphasis on sustainable fashion. Designers showcased innovative approaches to material sourcing, ethical production, and circular economy concepts. From recycled fabrics to conscious consumption messaging, Copenhagen affirmed its position as a leader in eco-friendly fashion. From designers such as A. Roege Hove’s meticulously crafted knits, forming figure hugging silhouettes that was paired with woven material that is soft and unstructured, to Skall Studio who are coincidentally celebrating 10 years this year. The brand showcased a more classic and mature offering for SS25 with silhouettes brought to life by florals and broderie anglaise, coupled with handmade jute belts in neutral colours giving the collection an exquisitely feminine touch.

While the minimalist aesthetic synonymous with Scandinavian style remained prevalent, designers infused their collections with a contemporary edge. Bold colours, unexpected silhouettes, and playful accents breathed new life into the classic Nordic look. The result was a fresh and modern interpretation of the region’s signature aesthetic. Though new to Copenhagen Fashion Week, Joao Maraschin’s SS25 collection fit right in with the Scandi vibe. His signature sense of colour and texture is evident in his designs, a standout piece being a striking all red look featuring a cropped fuzzy top, visible beneath a tailored suit, creating a dynamic and visually interesting silhouette.

Copenhagen Fashion Week has always provided a platform for emerging designers to showcase their vision. With a fearless approach to design and a strong sense of individuality, these newcomers injected a vibrant energy into the week. Their collections demonstrated the depth of talent within the Scandinavian fashion scene. The Garment’s SS25 show set in the visually stunning Thorvaldsens Museum, was filled with wardrobe staples refreshed for the modern woman. Wide-leg flares were paired with asymmetric blouses made from flouncy chiffon materials, while structured blazers were embellished with chiffon arm cuffs.

Not only were emerging brands given the spotlight but Danish heavy hitters such as Rotate Birger Christensen, Gestuz and Lovechild 1979 unveiled their SS25 collection respectively reminding us why we fell in love with the Scandi aesthetic in the first place. Lovechild 1979 drew inspiration from artist Eva Hesse creating expressively minimalist designs that featured tonal layering perfect for everyday wear. The Gestuz SS25 collection however was a myriad of designs fit for a 1970’s ‘It’ girl, from luxurious shirts featuring dramatic lapels styled with sultry mini shorts, to oversized blazers with sheer slip skirts and a leather jacket to die for the collection was decidedly rock and roll. Rotate closed off the week with a collection that oozed summer romance. Set against the idyllic backdrop of the Royal Library Garden, the collection evoked a sense of summer escape. Soft, ethereal fabrics and fluid silhouettes transported the audience to the glamorous world of the 1920s. Voluminous skirts, airy lace, and floral embroidery in pastel hues were juxtaposed with edgier staples such as floor-length fringe, hot pants, and a denim gown, making for a perfect end to a sunny week in the Danish capital.
