Dear Shaded Viewers,
Absolutely flawless from start to finish, the audience was spellbound by the drama and theater that was Jean Paul Gaultier haute couture by Haider Ackermann. It was couture at its finest and truly the strongest representation of the word that I have ever been witness to. Every stitch, every pleat, every cuff, every collar was sharply precise and perfect.
As the models performed their way down the catwalk posing in different positions , like an Irving Penn photoshoot, allowing the audience to truly experience each garment, we were transported to into Haider’s world. From the icy blue carpet set to the haunting mental asylum screech in the soundscape, the show had a beautiful eeriness about it. One model with an oversized white satin lab coat and latex green gloves also helped to set the scene. Feathers were sharp like knives, coat dresses with contrasting lining, draping strict and crisply-scissored. Bright pops of jewel colours paired back with black and thousands of pins formed to create a spike effect on jackets, pants, and shoes.
The casting was impeccable with Mariacarla Boscono, a true stand out, as she worked her backless black gown, running her hands over her body and slowly arching to showcase the stiff bow detail around her neck. It was mesmerizing, the images simply do not do the collection justice. When beauty takes your breath away and gives you such strong emotion its couture! If only Haider could have another season with the house as the pairing of Gaultier codes with Haider’s eye for detail is outstanding.

Leticia
