14th edition of the international and interdisciplinary FASHIONCLASH Festival took place from 25 – 27 November 2022 in Maastricht (The Netherlands)

Dear Shaded Viewers,

I just returned from Maastricht where the 14th edition of the international and interdisciplinary FASHIONCLASH Festival took place from 25 – 27 November 2022. I was part of the jury for the Fashion Film & Video Jury prize along with Cathelijne Blok and Niccolo Montanari. The winner was Eric Bergrin and Arkan Zakharov’s film ‘The 8 Dissolutions’ which is a film about Buddhist death process where the senses and elements shut down in 8 stages, so each piece is a different stage. A lot of the materials in the collection, like kombucha leather, textiles from seaweed, grew crystals on fabrics, melted bismuth, etc were shown at the Morris museum and then exhibited elsewhere.

During this three-day hybrid (on- & offline program) festival, a new generation of designers and performing artists from all over the world were given the opportunity to show their work to a broad (inter)national audience. The program with exhibitions, performances, talks and fashion film screenings and awards, showcases projects that explore, contextualise and celebrate contemporary fashion culture.

FASHIONCLASH Festival is all about discovering, stimulating and co-shaping current developments in fashion and opening up these developments to a broad audience. The festival consists of a multidisciplinary and polyphonic program based on a selection from the proposals submitted via the open call and the projects initiated by FASHIONCLASH itself, which are developed in co-production with other organisations such as Glamcult, Via Zuid, Kunstbende and Marres.
During the festival, work by more than 50 emerging and established designers and artists from different countries around the world was on show. Two prizes were awarded during the opening on Friday evening. Erik Bergrin & Arkan Zakharov won the Fashion Film & Video jury prize with their film ‘The 8 Dissolutions’, made possible in part by Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds Limburg. Jury panel consisted of yours truly, Cathelijne Blok and Niccolo Montanari. Film ‘Sock Monster’ by ANT EYE | Hanneke & Tosca won Kaltblut Magazine Award.
