Thieves in the night at Mowalola PFW SS23 – Text by Leticia Dare

Mowalola, Summer 2023

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Sexy, subversive, bound and nude. Mowalola’s PFW SS23 collection was a knock-out. Presenting a study of what it truly takes to steal -money, jewellery, data, power, hearts. Burglarwear showed us white-collar bankers, pastors and Yahoo Boys -Lagos’ ostentatiously dressed internet scammers. Styled by the amazing Lotta Volkova and true to Mowalola’s DNA, pants were extra low cut – literally grazing the pubic bone, skirts were super short, leather was unlaced and zipped, faces masked in balaclavas. The final look, a wedding dress complete with a head covering holy cross was the icing on the cake of a stellar debut show in Paris.
