Istanbul Fashion Connection Launch Is a Success – by Aybuke Barkcin

Istanbul Fashion Connection (IFCO), the biannual fashion event bringing together Turkish and international manufacturers was successfully launched on February 9 – 11 at the Istanbul Expo Center.

Initiated by the Istanbul Ready-to-Wear and Apparel Exporters’ Association in cooperation with the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, this year IFCO attracted over 25,000 visitors all around the world and 600 ready-to-wear companies who presented their collections ranging from womenswear, menswear, kids-wear, denim, shoes, leather and fur, lingerie and bridal, and evening wear.

Turkey is seeing a continuous rise in textile exports to the European Union, with the record reaching 20.3 billion$ just in 2021 (A development which has been accelerated due to the pandemic). Thus, the mission of the event comes with the intention to highlight Turkey’s position as one of the largest garment exporters in the world and to create an indispensable meeting place for Turkish design firms, agents, buyers, textile manufacturers and ready-to-wear brands.

One of the attendants of the event was EKOTEKS, the official institute in Turkey for the development and awarding of internationally valid sustainability certificates, which held seminars on “Sustainability in fashion”, “Structure of supply chains” and with WGSN “Creativity in fashion”, touching upon the increasing importance of sustainability in the fashion industry.

Other attendants included well-known designers such as; Arzu Kaprol, Dilek Hanif, Deniz Berdan, Ceren Ocak, Çigdem Akin, Emre Erdemoglu, Gökhan Yavaş, Tagg Gökay Aydogdu, Mehmet Emiroglu, Mehtap Elaidi, Mert Erkan, Murat Aytulum, Nedo Nedret Taciroglu, Nej, Nihan Peker, Niyazi Erdogan, Özgür Masur, Özlem Erkan, Özlem Kaya, Selen Akyüz, Sudi Etüz, Sbnm Sebenm Gunay,Tanju Babacan, Tugba Atasoy and Y Plus Yakup Bicer, who presented their creations under the umbrella of Fashion Week Istanbul.

The next IFCO event will take place on August 24 – 26 in 2022.
