A must see in Paris: Fondation Azzedine Alaia a look at his early years in Paris

Dear Shaded Viewers,

“Alaïa before Alaïa,” is the latest exhibition at the Fondation Azzedine Alaïa and it is like none of the previous exhibitions.  This time the exhibit is based on text and the history of the early days of Alaïa. You can only see the garments through thin windows which adds to the intimate atmosphere. There is no way that you can take it all in on one visit and lucky for all of us it will be up through to October. On the ground floor you learn about his early influences, his twin sister Haifa and the Catholic nuns of the Sisters of Sion order. Their habits were an inspiration to him. Upstairs a room is dedicated to his lifelong muse, Leila Menchari. Monthly talks will be scheduled throughout the duration of the exhibition.

Carla Sozzani acts as the archivist and art director using archive documents, sketches and photos while Olivier Saillard is the curator.
