Skate Series x Surf Ghana by Melissa Alibo

Immerse into Ghana’s skateboard scene

Last December, in tumultuous times, I managed to sneak out of France. I ended up in Ghana, where I was introduced to the members of the Surf Ghana collective. The organization, founded by Sandy Alibo, uses the practice of action sports as a driver for diversity in education, social inclusion, and youth empowerment.

Together we cruised around Accra and Aburi, discovering new landscapes, redefining urban spaces, and pushing boundaries. Genuinely inspired, I photographed the crew with my vintage Canon AE1.

On a side note, Surf Ghana is currently developing Ghana’s very first skate park with the help of Virgil Abloh, Off White, and Daily Paper.
