Upcoming event: Martin Margiela’s First Art Exhibition by Aybuke Barkcin

Dear Shaded Viewers,

From April 15 to July 25, 2021 the Fondation Lafayette Anticipations will be hosting Martin Margiela’s first art exhibition, titled Martin Margiela.

If you are a Margiela fan like me, you will perhaps agree with me when I say that each book and exhibition curated by Martin Margiela, is a flow of inspiration which opens your eyes to the limitless possibilities of fashion and design. The man behind scenes, who rarely gave any interviews nor photographs during his career, is without argument one of the most revolutionary designers of all time.

“This exhibition celebrates the idea that Martin Margiela has always been an artist, whose work has played out since, within and outside the art world. He has always made us look at things with fresh eyes. Going against the grain, he cultivates an obsession for discreet people, abandoned objects and forgotten places and events, bestowing on them a new dignity.” a spokesperson for Lafayette Anticipations said in an official statement.

The exhibition will feature never before seen sculptures, photographs, installations and other art pieces by Martin Margiela and it will explore the themes of “the passage of time, disappearance, chance, mystery and aura”… themes which were already present during his career as a fashion designer, some which are perhaps new.

Though we have to wait until April to see the artworks, the foundation is expected to release a sneak-peak visuals in January.

Due to the pandemic, we don’t know if museums and exhibitions will open their doors by April but still mark your calendars!
