Ernest W. Baker A/W 19 photographed by Vladimir Kaminetsky and styled by Mauricio Nardi

Dear Shaded Viewers,

The Ernest W. Baker collection is inspired by the Grandfather with the same name who was an  ad man in Detroit in the 70’s and serves as a muse for Ernest W. Baker’s spirit of Detroit collection. Images made by the photographer Dave Jordano, a Detroit native, who documented the city’s life throughout the 70’s along with the closet of Baker’s grandfather are the impulse behind the AW19 Ernest W. Baker collection. The concept reminds me of the Maison Martin Margiela Replica Collection. An honest approach to re-appropriation.

The collection references Reid Baker,  the co-designers’ 92 year old grandfather. A company brochure “1973 E. W. Baker Advertising, Employee’s of the Month.” The collection is designed by Reid Baker and Ines Amorim of the US and Portugal, the collection is a blend of both of their cultures. The label was shortlisted for the 2018 LVMH Prize.
