Mario Salvucci – accessories

Dear Shaded Viewers,

The Italian jewellery designer, Mario Salvucci is based in Perugia, Italy but spent most of the 1980’s and 90’s in New York City. Even though he started making jewellery in Italy at an early age it is his time in New York City that really confirmed his craft. He’s always liked working with his hands, you can call it a kind of addiction. After a few decades in NYC he moved back to Italy where his work took on a different approach. While living in Manhattan the majority of his customers were stores however in Italy he became more interested in creating one of a kind pieces and having a direct contact with his clients. He sells his work through his website, Instagram and MarioSalvucciLAB on Facebook.

As his work evolved he decided to translate his shapes and ideas into a bigger scale and that is when he made jewellery for the walls in his collection called Progetto Lanterne. The lighting designs ended up in restaurants, boutiques and private homes. He even designed a huge lamp/birdcage which you could see at the entrance of the JOYCE Boutique in Hong Kong. But in the end his laser cut technique with the lamps brought him back to making jewellery and the first piece was a spider pin which  was the birth of his Incredible Creatures collection.

His inspirations have always come from nature. “From the beginning of time man has asked nature for protection and now it seems we have forgotten this! I see my jewellery as an amulet that someone carries with them for protection.” Salvucci said.  His materials include pyrite, quartz crystal and moonstone. Pyrite is a protective, shielding stone which as an amulet deflects harm and danger. It is a crystal of positive energy and is extremely helpful for melancholy and ridding oneself of negative thoughts it relieves anxiety and frustration and as a mirror to the self, reveals the causes behind these emotions. Clear quartz crystal is known as the master healer and is one of the most beneficial stones. It will amplify energy and thought as affect other stones while absorbing and storing energy and then releasing it. Since the earliest times moonstone has been associated with the magic of the moon and considered an amulet of protection for travellers, a gift of lovers of passion, a channel for prophecy and a path to wisdom. When Salvucci started his Incredible Creatures collection he was working with laser cut silver sheets to make his insects and flowers and was able to recycle the waste to make new pieces. This collection was one way to look around and observe exactly what is happening to our planet. Recently he melted down all the scrap silver that he had at his bench in order to make the silver wire he used for the new pyrite rings and amulets. “This I believe gives extra positive energy to my work.” Said Salvucci. I think it is a good time for all of his to have an amulet to protect us.

In addition to making his jewellery he wants to pass on his experience and knowledge to young creative minds by teaching. His last exhibition was in the show “Gioielli alla Moda” at the Museum of Palazzo Reale in Milan in 2018  called “Naturalia, il gioiello moda nella natura”.
