Opening Night of MQ Vienna Fashion Week, September 2016. By Glenn Belverio

Dear Shaded Viewers,

It seems like I’m always in Vienna—the gilded gingerbread citadel that has an opioid-like effect on me. Blessed with lovely weather and my generous Austrian friends, the occasion was the 11th annual MQ Vienna Fashion Week held, as always, in the city’s important museum quarter.

The opening night gala, which took place two weeks ago, was a steamy (summer lingered), halcyon affair. Vintage designs from the likes of Rudi Gernreich (Austrian, gay, Jewish fashion hero) and Helmut Lang, along with a menagerie of voracious international fashionistas and beautiful creatures, were on display.

A trojan-horse-like creation that seems tailor-made for Hillary Clinton’s Inauguration.

The ever-ebullient Doretta Carter explained to my friend Paulo Mariotti the Viennese ritual of fashion-event greetings. “If someone comes at you exclaiming ‘bussy, bussy’ it means they are going to air kiss you so as not to destroy your makeup. Don’t worry, darling—they are not saying ‘pussy, pussy’!”

You know she couldn’t wait to trot this masterpiece out.
