AIKA ALEMI FW16/17 – TEXT BY PHILIPPE POURHASHEMI PHOTOS BY DARINA LEE

Dear Shaded Viewers,

One of the pioneer brands within Kazakhstan's budding fashion scene is AIKA ALEMI, the womenswear line created by Aika Jaxybai. Having already sold her collections abroad and represented her country internationally, the dynamic and engaging designer showcased her last collection in Paris at Cube showroom in le Marais. A subtle blend of local craftsmanship and European references -such as Victoriana for instance- her garments come across as romantic and urban at the same time, with a focus on natural fibers and geometric cuts. Her signature patchwork effects, which allow her to mix materials in unexpected ways, were beautifully interpreted this time, from precious cocoon-like outerwear to stylish separates. Dark velvet and plush knits added softness to the line, while delicate silk chiffon dresses evoked the nonchalant and forward-thinking elegance of the 1920s.

Best,

Philippe
