Harold Koda, Curator in Charge Costume Institute , Metropolitan Museum of Art NYC
Dear Shaded Viewers,
I got up at 4h to make a 7h flight to Venice because I did not want to miss the keynote speaker, Harold Koda. The last time that I saw him was when the Metropolitan Museum invited me to participate in a Sunday at the Met that went along with the Met's Mode Blogging exhibition. Today's international symposium was organized by Judith Clark and Maria Luisa Frisa. Judith Clark and Maria Luisa Frisa curated the Diana Vreeland After Diane Vreeland exhibition at the Palazzo Fortuny. I will have a private view this morning before leaving for Paris. THe idea of the symposium was to discuss the evolving discipline of curating and brought together prominent voices from the field including Anna Mattirolo, Director of MAXXI Arte, ROme, Judith Clark, London COllege of Fashion, Alexandra Palmer, Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto, Stefano Tonchi, Editor in Chief, W Magazine, Benedetta Barzini, Politecnico di Milano, NABA who gave a talk under the reign of DV, Akiko Fukai, Kyoto Costume Institute, Laurent Cotta, Musee Galliera, Kaat Debo, MoMu, Miren Arzalluz, Cristobal Balenciaga Foundation and many others. I'd never attended a symposium on curation and found all the speakers very inspiring. I do admit that around 5h30, my energy totally left me and I did miss the last few elements of the conference. I regret that but… I was severely sleep deprived.
Maria Luisa Frisa and Stefano Tonchi
Benedetta Barzini, she gave an amazing talk – Under the Reign of DV talking about her experiences as a model working for Diana Vreeland
I wish that I had recorded the event, I am sure that someone did and it would be well worth listening to as all the speakers had very interesting things to say and, as far as I know, this was quite an original idea for a symposium.
Later,
Diane
