Pipilotti Rist is a pioneer in the world of video art and is acclaimed for her innovative installations. This is her first major public survey show in the UK and she will be presenting videos, sculptures and installations. All in all it consists of 30 works that span her career that started in the 80's till today.
Sensual images fuse with music and sometimes text. Her films are playful, psychedelic, sensual and provocative with themes such as birth and death, family and love, the body and the natural world playing with size and scale, using high and low technology, the natural world and the urban environment. Visitors at the Hayward Gallery will be able to peer down at a naked human being beseeching them from a tiny hold in the floor in Selfless In the Bath of Lava (1994) and envelop themselves in the meditative landscape of Lobe of the Lung (2009).
PIPILOTTI RIST opens on 28 September 2011 and runs until 8 January 2012 at the Hayward Gallery, Southbank Centre, Belvedere Road, London SE1 8XX
