Dear Shaded Viewers,
I barely touched down in Paris after NOOVO festival in Santiago de Compostela when I was out the door again on my way to the Stella Awards in Zurich.
Antoine Asseraf, Yoann Lemoine and I did the video portraits of the designers in the competition and Robb Young takes care of the international press for the event. Basically we never see each other because there is much to much to take care of however on the first afternoon Robb and I did manage to sneak off for a lovely quiet lunch. That was about the last that I saw of him except in passing. The reason we were both in Zurich was to see which talented designer would walk away with teh 100,000 EUROS Swiss Textiles prize.
The fashion show was yesterday. I don’t know what was happening but so many people asked to take my photo that I really never had a chance to speak with my friends before the show began.
Being in a competition when you are already established in your own right as a designer is never easy, all I can say is I am not worried for the success of any of the contenders. They all showed strong collections that were appreciated by industry professionals and the public alike.

As is the tradition at the Stella Awards, Bruno Pieters, last years winner, presented his collection while the jury was out making their final decision.

At one point Antoine exclaimed, wow, look at that blond woman over there, her hair is almost as high as yours. To my delight the woman that he was talking about was Dianne Brill. I had not seen her for nearly two decades. Basically she looks exactly the same. Among other things she used to model for Mugler in the 80’s and also designed a line of men’s wear. We both lived and loved NYC in the 80’s. At that time she was married to Rudolph who owned Danceteria. Since then she has remarried and has three children. She has a cosmetic company now and has recently launched a perfume. Her new home is Zurich with her husband and their three children. I am not sure how she landed at the Stella Awards but was happy that she did. She made Antoine and I laugh because she said that she was having a fashion crisis that evening as she was the original Paris Hilton of the 80’s working her beautiful cleavage and now she said she wanted to work the face instead. The solution was a raised neckline.
