I just came back from Antwerp. The last stop before the train station was to see the exhibit at Window, Walt’s store. Thanks to Sharifa, from Baby soon to be Meow, I met the video artist/painter, Meiro Koizumi. Wish that I’d had more time but I had to catch my train.
The reason for my trip to Antwerp was to attend the 2005 show of the Royal Academy of Antwerp. It was the best school show that I’ve attended this season. Imagine the class starts out with 150 students and by the final year only 10 remain. Obviously the level is high.
Briefly, highlights from the graduating class were Hideki Seo for his Swimming in the garment" collection. I enjoyed the presentation of Marion Michel and her sunglasses collection. It was hard to look at her collection and not see CdG and the hump collection merging with glam Westwood . My favorite designer was Christopher De Vos "The beautiful white man collection."Turns out that Christopher is the boyfriend of ITS3 winner of the Maria Luisa prize, Peter Pilotto. They help each other on their collections. Now Peter says it is Christopher’s turn to help him. At any rate they are both talented designers with a strong and romantic fantasy world.
Christopher De Vos’s beautiful white man collection, Marion Michel’s distorted glam look and front row – Dries, Raf and Haider.
Helena Lumelsky with Fightclub junior, a real show favorite with the pre-teen models,Hanne De Wyngaert with Rabbit heads, Johanna Trudzinski Sshh..they are coming collection with the primitive platforms that were featured on the show invitation and Akiko Muata Fallica collection, men in heels , Eli Effenberger with Tibetan Man – Morning eggs collection, Mikio Sakabe Buddhist Festival Costume, "I like it, because friends like it!" I liked the skirt that turned in tiers because it made me laugh and the totem pole was quite impressive..
Let us not forget the amazing historical costumes proposed by the second year and I don’t know what happen to the image of the woman under a long black veil that I loved..
2nd year students created the historical costumes that you see above. Their instructor is Patirck De Muynck, who you see here sitting with jury member and Chanel accessory designer, Laetitia Crahay.
