Dear Shaded Viewers,
Today Li Edelkoort and Polimoda held a press conference to announce a new course at Polimoda and for Li to give her Declaration of Change: Radical Metamorphosis. The new course: Farm to Fabric to Fashion will start in fall of 2022. The project is to initiate a new way of thinking about the textiles we wear from their very beginning. The course is the brainchild of : Li Edelkoort,Trend Forcaster, Philip Fimmano, Trend Union and mentor of the new course, Linda Loppa, Advisor of Strategy and Vision at Polimoda and Massimiliano Giornetti, Director of Polimoda. All four expressed their dedication to change after Linda introduced Li, who then delivered her manifesto which was for Change and how this course will help to motivate a new way of thinking about the clothes that we wear.
The basic idea is getting closer and kinder to nature, visiting farms, teaching the origin of clothes, how animals are treated and a new appreciation for the loom. The course will take place outside of Florence and the nature and one would assume animals surrounding them will be their daily source of inspiration. Trips around Italy and beyond will be organised furthering a back to nature philosophy. Students will see how textiles are made out of alternative crops, seaweed, mushrooms or the earth, learn yarn design and dyeing techniques. Li believes in collectors and collaborators as opposed to consumers. The ultimate goal is to have students design their own manifesto on their vision for the future that they would like to live in and to present their discoveries where Farm, Fabric and Fashion are realised and how this could potentially change the course of fashion history. “A new empathic way of doing fashion, where the joy of creating finally returns.”
Later,
Diane
