Dear Shaded Viewers,
Today there was an announcement that New York Fashion Week is forced to limit their audience significantly. The regulations due to the Covid-19 pandemic means that with the new guidelines only 50 spectators will be permitted at open-air runways and indoor shows will be closed to spectators. None of this surprises you, does it?
Considering the dramatic changes Fashion Weeks are experiencing I thought it would be a good time to introduce you to a series of 10 interviews with American fashion icons: Bill Cunningham, Marc Jacobs, Tom Ford, Billy Porter and others. All of the subjects open up to Fern Mallis, the executive director of the Council of Fashion Designers of America from 1991–2001, and created 7th on Sixth productions or New York Fashion Week as it is known today. She was also senior vice president of IMG Fashion from 2001 to 2010. That said she was very familiar with all of the designers and assorted icon that she interviewed. Watch Billy Porter break down his “wear whatever the f*ck you want” fashion style or Iman describe how Wilhelmina Cooper herself first saw her model potential. No topic is off-limits as award-winning creator of New York Fashion Week, Fern Mallis, speaks with these world-renowned designers, photographers, models and editors about their iconic work and style. I watched several of them and found them quite amusing especially Marc Jacobs and Billy Porter. What is good about them as because of the relationship Mallis has with her subjects they were all very open and relaxed. I liked Billy Porter discussing how he broke into the acting and responding to people that always ask him how he got the parts that he did, his response was I went to the audition…he talked about how he pushed for everything that he achieved and that that is the only way to get where you believe you belong. Jacobs talks about his struggles with drugs and the ups and down of fashion and his eternal love for Paris. The full series includes: Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein, Bob Mackie (think Cher) , Billy Porter (Pose), Tom Ford, Polly Mellen (x-Vogue RdC), Iman, Oscar de la Renta, Bill Cunningham and Arthur Elgort (Photographer).
This curated selection of never-before-released videos will be available on demand from August 26 through September 30, 2020. Single videos are $15. Access to the full series is $100.
