Charlotte Chesnais Opens First International Flagship in Tokyo’s Aoyama District

French jewellery designer Charlotte Chesnais has opened her first international flagship boutique in Tokyo, marking a new global chapter for her eponymous brand. Nestled in the city’s vibrant Aoyama neighbourhood, the space stands as a physical expression of Chesnais’s long-standing connection with Japan — a country she was first drawn to by Nicolas Ghesquière, with whom she worked at Balenciaga in the early 2000s.

Designed in collaboration with Dutch architect Anne Holtrop, the boutique continues the duo’s exploration of material and form that began with their Paris projects. This time, they turned to cast glass and silver leaf, materials chosen for their tactile depth and ability to age with character. The oxidising silver walls and sculptural glass elements create an atmosphere where, as Chesnais describes, “time stretches a little.”

Part gallery and part boutique, the new location will also showcase works by artists close to the designer, reinforcing Chesnais’s vision of the store as a space for creative presentation and reflection as much as for retail. With the launch, the brand introduces an expanded fine jewellery collection, offering pieces that extend her sculptural design language into a more intimate realm.

The Tokyo flagship serves as, in Chesnais’s words, “a bridge between Paris and Japan — between French sensitivity and Japanese minimalism, between the purity of materials and the emotion of design.”
