Galerie Lelong Presents Kiki Smith’s FLIGHT

Continuing her 25-year relationship with Galerie Lelong, Kiki Smith will unveil her tenth exhibition with the gallery this May.

Known for her fascination with the natural world and diverse sources of inspiration, the German-born artist has built over four decades of celebrated work. Through a multidisciplinary practice encompassing sculpture, drawing, printmaking, photography, objects, stained glass, and tapestry, her art has reached across many corners of the contemporary landscape. Whether observing the bark of birch trees near her home, pigeons in Manhattan parks, or a full moon, Smith draws equally from Lewis Carroll, human anatomy, and the poetry of Emily Dickinson — creating a body of work that spans wide fields of thought and imagination.

Her work has been the subject of numerous solo exhibitions worldwide, including those at MoMA, New York; Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo; Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; and Tate Britain, London.

Titled FLIGHT, the upcoming exhibition brings together nine bronzes, two large stained-glass windows, drawings, and more. As the title suggests, bird motifs remain central to the show. Using nature as a mirror of humanity, Smith highlights eagles, doves, and owls to create an emotional journey through the work.
