Dear Shaded Viewers,
Rei Kawakubo presents SIX by Comme des Garçons at Dover Street Market Paris. The metal pillars of the courtyard are transformed, wrapped in images from Six, the magazine she created between 1988 and 1991, alongside new photographs made for this project.
This is Kawakubo’s sixth courtyard installation at DSMP. Each has been different, each unmistakably hers—quietly bold, slightly mysterious, full of poetry.
For SIX, the pillars carry scans of the magazine pages and Kawakubo’s own words: “The five senses—to see, to hear, to taste, to smell and to touch—are realistic senses. The sixth sense is one that cannot be realistically expressed. ‘Six’ means the sixth sense.” Circular structures around the pillars create depth, making the images even more alive.
The installation is on view now, a quiet, surreal reminder of Kawakubo’s singular vision and restless imagination. Pictures taken by Maurits Peeters, courtesy of DSMP.
Yours digitally,
Pedro
