My time in London for the first edition of CIFF held at Karma Sanctum Hotel co-founded by Kirsty Bell and Ben Charles Edwards

Dear Shaded Viewers,

The night before my departure, I stumbled across a TikTok video predicting a major power outage and a possible terrorist attack in the next 48 hours. For a moment, I hesitated-what if the Eurostar ground to a halt mid-tunnel? But after some reflection (and a reality check), I decided it was likely just another wave of online misinformation. Once in London, I realized none of my friends or acquaintances had even heard a whisper of these rumors. I’m glad I trusted my instincts and went ahead with my plans.

https://londondirectchauffeurs.com/ met me right at the gate, making for a seamless and stylish arrival. This time, I headed straight to visit my dear friend-and former client the talented artist Paola Piglia. She welcomed me with a delicious homemade Italian meal, the perfect prelude to checking in at my hotel and heading out to the opening party for the inaugural edition of CIFF.

Day two was all about catching up on exhibitions I’d missed last time: Face Magazine at the National Portrait Gallery and the Leigh Bowery show at Tate Modern, both visited in the company of my wonderful friend Silvia Bombardini. In between we went to Rose Bakery at Dover Street Market London, impossible for me to visit London and not go to DSML.

From day three onward, I found myself immersed in the screening room at the Karma Sanctum Hotel Soho, CIFF’s home for four days. There, I enjoyed thought-provoking talks on independent cinema, caught all the screenings, and reconnected with old friends.

On my last morning, I had breakfast with the inimitable Pam Hogg, who then walked me to the Eurostar-a perfect bookend to my London adventure. Looking back, I’m so grateful I didn’t let TikTok rumors derail my trip. Sometimes, the best journeys begin with a leap of faith.

Thank you Kirsty Bell and Ben Charles Edwards for a great first edition and a continuing collaboration with ASVOFF.

Later,

Diane
