Wisnel Milien “Time” F/W 25 : Vulcainic refinement by Mael Heinz

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Fashion Week has just concluded, a remarkable period where scenography reached its zenith. Several shows were enhanced by unique atmospheres. One, in particular, left an indelible impression on our collective memory: Wisnel Milien. The emerging brand staged a runway show in the former ice rink of Saint-Ouen, creating a captivating ambiance.

Wisnel Milien, a designer of Haitian origin, presented a collection centered around the concept of time. In an unprecedented tour de force, he succeeded in conveying the eternal intensity of his island heritage. But what is an island? A land emerging between volcanoes and ocean waves. Working with the theme of erosion, he crafted a demure line. The garments cling to the silhouette, featuring expressive cuts. Some outfits are accentuated with deconstructed leather squares, while others showcase see-through elements, creating plunging necklines. Most pieces are crafted from noble fabrics such as silk or wool. The pièce de résistance is a melted dress, where experimental design aligns seamlessly with craftsmanship. Jewelry pieces are created using the same process, offering contemporary accessories that remain true to an authentic identity.

The show left a profound impression on attendees, likely converting many into long-term followers. The gymnasium was transformed into an abyssal cave, where performers provided music and dance alongside the models. Robin Labarrère, Ludivine Ferrara, and Margaux Balmier led a frenetic dance, surprising the audience throughout the show. Composer Carmeline delivered expressive music, her clapping beats and electronic sounds immersing us in the tumult of the elements. Junior Fritz Jacquet created a set using 10 tons of paper, featuring medusas, seaweed, and cave lighting that astonished the audience, who were invited to explore the installation after the show. You can also see it through March30th in the exhibition “L’océan de Lea”

Wisnel Milien is undoubtedly a designer to watch. With his genuine savoir-faire, he brings out our intuitive intensity while maintaining Parisian refinement. His ability to conceive clothing with a comprehensive vision and a clear statement will be major assets, presenting new challenges in the years to come.

Regards,

Mael Heinz
