Dear Shaded Viewers,
The Diotima Matriarch Fall 2025 collection is a powerful ode to the complexity and beauty of black women, challenging long-held stereotypes and presenting a nuanced portrayal of the matriarch figure. Designer Rachel Scott has crafted a collection that celebrates the multifaceted nature of black womanhood, drawing inspiration from a rich tapestry of personal histories and intimate moments.“The collection is centred around this figure, the matriarch– her nuance and complexity, sensuality and intimacy. For too long her story has been reduced and flattened,” Scott explains, highlighting the urgent need to readdress the portrayal of black women in fashion and society at large.
Scott’s creative process began with a call to her community, seeking images of black women who paved the way – aunties, trans mothers, grandmothers, and matriarchs. The response was overwhelming, providing a wealth of visual inspiration that spanned generations and captured the essence of what Diotima represents.
“I could not have imagined the sheer beauty of the responses. In every photo I received I saw in their faces, demeanor and presence, the exact nuance I have been trying to materialize with Diotima,” Scott reflects. These images, ranging from studio portraits to intimate snapshots, became the foundation for a collection that honors the legacy of these women.
The Diotima Matriarch Fall 2025 collection is a harmonious blend of strength and sensuality, reimagining traditional materials and silhouettes to create a narrative of empowerment and grace.
“I promise to honour the legacies of these matriarchs as best I can.” The Diotima Matriarch Fall 2025 collection stands as a testament to the power, beauty, and complexity of black women, inviting the fashion world to see beyond stereotypes and celebrate the rich tapestry of black female experience.” said Rachel Scott.
