Dear Shaded viewers,
Weinsanto opened SS25 Paris Fashion Week with an unforgettable dinner party. Though the show was titled, “Cauchemar in the Kitchen”, translated to English as “Nightmare in the Kitchen”, it was a humorous and joyful affair packed with sartorial theatricality. Each look proposed a new character breaking free of the confines of high society.
The show, held at the Georges restaurant, set the stage with a short performance by Le Filip, winner of Drag Race Season 3, alongside actress Camille Lellouche, vedette Allanah Star, and Angèle Micaux. Creative Director Victor Weinsanto stuck sophisticated design codes with classic allure as the backbone of his collection but he is evolving the brand by skillfully marrying influences from drag and cabaret, as well as his formative years at Jean Paul Gaultier.
While miniskirts and waist-emphasizing silhouettes proposed daring femininity, Weinsanto did not shy away from the masculine tailoring in his jackets. Pinstripe and pearls played further on gender fluidity, as seen in an angular mid-calf dress and a 1920’s inspired web-like beaded dress, respectively. A vibrant print composed of abstracted floral shapes in the style of Art Nouveau, electrified corsets and body-conforming garments with dynamic energy. Weinsanto injected the collection with humor. Playful glimpses of nips and bum cheeks hinted at the unraveling of social inhibitions as the dinner party went on. Spectacular couture accessories such as a nearly 2-meter hat and a larger-than-life champagne glass bag, aided Weinsanto’s imagined guests in their command of the spotlight.
Weinsanto may have titled his show a “Nightmare”, but in all its drama and joy, the collection was a crowd-pleaser.
Later,
Eliya
