Ahluwalia Takes Us Home for SS25 by Bethany Berkeley

Dear Shaded Viewers,

British designer Priya Ahluwalia presented her newest collection for her namesake brand (Ahluwalia) today in Church House. Focusing on colours and prints synonymous with the brand Ahluwalia’s SS25 collection was filled with colours we all associate with our homes.

Adequately titled ‘Home Sweet Home’ the collection featured a variety of colours from ecru, terracotta to dusky pinks and sky blues. Darker colours like black, amber and browns were also implemented through providing a sense of tranquility and grounding. The show began off with chords from a Middle Eastern Kanun rippling through the hall, as the first model strutted down the runway clad in cropped crotchet knitted top in patchwork blues paired with a maxi satin skirt. The atmosphere became electric with the chords subtly mixed into the afrobeats music streaming through the speakers, giving off a real nostalgic feeling home.

Blending traditional and contemporary influences, tailored suits are cut from headstock Chloe material, an ever present emphasis on sustainability Ahluwalia is well known for. Embellished two-piece woven dresses see. Layers introduced into them for add texture and depth, while jersey dresses are reimagine in tile and checkerboard patterns. Ahluwalia also delves into softer prints this season with floral and lead motifs inspired by the wallpaper in Priya’s grandparents’ first home in the UK making their way unto the runway, adding a personal touch to the collection. Dresses are distinguished by a unique lace-up detail along the open seam, while tops crafted from vintage doilies are adorned with beading.

For men, the collection offers coordinated two-piece sets featuring home-inspired patterns, reminiscent of the women’s line. Vertical stripes, tile, and checkerboard motifs inject a dose of geometric energy. The tactile appeal of raffia in knit, woven, and jersey styles introduces a new dimension of visual and textural variety. To evoke the traditional wooden curtains found in Nigerian doorways, beaded wigs and embellishments adorn evening shirts, tailoring, and asymmetrical draped tops.

All in all the Ahluwalia SS25 collection is a one that will leave you reminiscing about the comforts of home.
