Dear Shaded Viewers,
Eric Daman, the acclaimed costume designer, has recently showcased his exceptional talent in the film “It Ends With Us,” starring Blake Lively. This project marks another milestone in Daman’s illustrious career, which has spanned over three decades and includes work on iconic television series, feature films, and fashion events.Daman’s journey in the fashion industry began in 1991 when he worked in Magic Circle a boutique in the Bastille area of Paris and in 1992 we worked together on an AIDS Benefit in Paris called Ballade de l’amour, a charity event by Susanne Barsch to raise funds for people afflicted with AIDS. This early collaboration sparked a friendship that has endured for more than 30 years and has led to several significant collaborations.
Throughout his career, Daman has made substantial contributions to the world of fashion and film, of course I am happy with his involvement with Shaded View on Fashion Film (ASVOFF) festival. His participation in ASVOFF has been noteworthy across multiple editions, showcasing his expertise and influence in the fashion film industry. In ASVOFF 8 (2015), Daman served on the jury when Jean Paul Gaultier was the President, marking the beginning of his official involvement with the festival. For ASVOFF 9 (2017), he took on the prestigious role of Jury President, where he also conducted a masterclass on costume design, sharing insights from his career as both a model and a designer. During ASVOFF 10 (2018), Daman served as the Master of Ceremonies which was held at the Jean Paul Gaultier HQ, further cementing his importance to the festival
After he moved to New York, where he was a model in a famous Calvin Klein campaign shot by Steven Meisel, Daman’s career took a new direction as a costume designer highlights include his work with Patricia Field on the series “Sex and the City,” which helped launch his career in costume design for television and film. He went on to create costumes for various projects, most notably the teen drama series “Gossip Girl,” where his designs played a crucial role in defining the show’s distinctive style.More recently, Daman he worked on the reboot of “Gossip Girl,” demonstrating his ability to adapt and evolve with changing fashion trends and audience expectations. His work on “Billions,” where he was responsible for dressing actress Maggie Siff, further showcases his versatility in creating costumes for different genres and characters
Eric Daman’s journey from a young fashion enthusiast to a respected costume designer and ASVOFF festival figurehead is a testament to his talent, dedication, and influence in the world of fashion and film. During lockdown for COVID he took the time to create the above video which was posted on my channel on FNL Network.
