Imaginary Conversations between Erdem and Duchess Deborah Devonshire. by Eliya Weinstein

Dear Shaded viewers,

Imaginary Conversations is a new exhibition at Chatsworth House running from June 22nd to October 24th 2024, presenting the world of Duchess Deborah Devonshire through the eyes of designer Erdem Moraliogly. Erdem’s SS24 collection explored the powerful femininity and romanticism of Duchess Deborah and comes to life in the exhibition alongside her personal objects and portraiture.

Erdem was granted a unique permission to access Chatsworth and the Devonshire family’s archives for his SS24 inspiration. Archival fabrics used for historic curtains at Chatsworth wove their way into the collection and the Duchess’s legendary insect jewelry become strong motifs. The result takes beloved British tradition and a deeply personal admiration of the Duchess into an ageless, timeless artistic application.

The exhibition weaves its way through the Chatsworth House Regency Guest Bedrooms, granting intimate access into the process of Erdem’s craftsmanship and allows one to experience the magic of inspiration through the eyes of the designer. Displayed throughout the Wellington, Leicester and Queen of Scot’s bedrooms and other rooms in the Chatsworth House, are the designers’ tools, textiles, and belongings of the Duchess. Alongside mannequins dressed in garments of Erdem’s collection, projections of the SS24 catwalk complete the designer’s journey from meeting the muse to completion.
