Dover Street Market Paris’ Westfall collaborates with Sorry Thanks I Love You in the first physical foray into Australia

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Sorry Thanks I Love You are always striving to experiment with how they use space to support Sydney’s cultural scene. From July 1st – 28th Dover Street Market Brand Development will arrive in Australia with a four-week installation at Sorry Thanks I Love You. The  LA-based DSMP artist Brett Westfall has designed an immersive installation for Sorry Thanks I Love You featuring his famous strawberry motif, so STILY have designed a strawberry-themed menu for their café, in collaboration with Shadow Bakery, Gelato Messina and Tokyo Lamington, to match.

The installation will run from July 1st – 28th and DSMP will  be launching a limited-edition t-shirt and the new Westfall collection during a special event on Thursday 4 July.

Dover Street Market Paris’ Westfall collaborates with Sorry Thanks I Love You

In an Australian debut, the large-scale installation is designed by longtime collaborator of Comme des Garçons & member of the Dover Street Market Paris umbrella: artist & designer Brett Westfall. Constructed using canvas paintings and wooden pallets as walls, and interlocking bicycles as a roof, the project echoes the artist’s eclectic style. Each hand-painted artwork incorporates Westfall’s signature motifs: the word “FRESH”, a strawberry image, and his daughter’s rendition of “Snoppy” adding a personal touch to the mix of eccentric found objects incorporated within the sculpture. STILY’s adjacent cafe will serve a Westfall-inspired menu including custom-made treats from Tokyo Lamington and Gelato Messina in exclusive flavours.

Located in Westfield Sydney, the installation coincides with Brett Westfall’s inaugural art showcase in Australia, with previous exhibitions stretching from Felix Art Fair in LA to K. Art Studio in Nagoya. To complement Westfall’s FW24 collection and commemorate the project, STILY and Westfall have co-designed a custom t-shirt which will be available exclusively in- store at STILY.

The collaboration is one extension of the on-going partnership Sorry Thanks I Love You has with Dover Street Market Paris Brand Development. In addition to Westfall, STILY also offers DSMP BD labels Sky High Farm, Honey Fucking Dijon, and the recently introduced New York- based, Vaquera at their Westfield Sydney store.

Westfall x STILY marks an exciting milestone in STILY’s event calendar, ahead of unveiling a brand-new fashion festival, FFWD, in August.

Brett Westfall

Born and raised in Southern California, Brett Westfall is a multi-disciplinary artist working mediums that include painting, sculpture, assemblage, installation, fashion, video, film, music and photography.

He started his brand WESTFALL with the idea of extending his ideas into clothing design that would read like poetry. Approaching as he would when creating a painting, sculpture, installation or music.

The colors in the garments he creates for his collections are hand dyed with his own color recipe; distressing garments and hand stitching as well as drawing the graphics/printing are some of the details done by his own hands for the WESTFALL brand.

Westfall utilizes his personal experiences as a human being, with nature, our environment, society as a whole and the growth that happens as a result of our relationships to all these elements for most of the inspiration for his work. Invoking thoughts and reflection of self and our time here on Earth.

Sorry Thanks I Love You

Founded in 2013, Sorry Thanks I Love You (STILY) was envisioned as an online store to send “Sorry,” “Thanks,” and “I Love You,” gifts. The team’s founding mission “to nurture relationships and inspire happiness” coupled with an insatiable appetite for experimentation propels their project forward ten years on. Their retail rebellion now exists as a 500 square metre concept store operating as a hybrid fashion, design, coffee, sound, art and event space. Located in Level One Westfield Sydney, STILY’s walls are lined with internationally esteemed designers like Acne Studios, Comme des Garçons, Issey Miyake and Maison Margiela, as well as

handmade pieces from small-scale designers like Parisian artisans Astier de Villate, New York- based Sky High Farm, Japanese atelier Klasica, and local Sydney artist Momoko Hatano- among many others.

Previous projects: UNSW X Issey Miyake, Marimekko, Gourmet Traveller, Veja, Rack Off and Y oga.
