Victor de Bie Potasser & Cartonner June 1 – 8 at atelier neerlandais

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Artist Victor de Bie is one of 4 siblings in a family of artists and graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in 2001 as a fashion designer.

After working in fashion for years as a stylist, fashion-editor and casting-agent for several internationally renowned model agencies and clients, Victor de Bie makes a U-turn.

In 2017 he decided to dedicate himself to his free work. As a visual artist Victor creates his own universe by paintings, drawings and objects.

Having studied fashion design, his work often relates to fashion.  The characteristic long, drawn-out figurines with their characteristic ‘sunken faces’ also find their origin in his fashion background.

Victor’s work is largely inspired by the Roman Catholic culture of his originally Belgian family, with relatives that painted numerous religious works in Churches and Cathedrals in the Flanders Area.

Amongst the colourful figures in his work family members and good friends are to be found, such as artist Iekeliene Stange and designer Jan Taminiau, both of whom he often works with.
