Dear Shaded Viewers,
From May 16 to July 31, Yohji Yamamoto’s “Letter to the Future” will be on display at 10 Corso Como Gallery, marking a new chapter in the gallery’s cultural program under Tiziana Fausti’s vision. This exhibition, curated by Alessio de’ Navasques from The Sapienza University in Rome, features 25 archival garments from Yamamoto’s collections spanning 1986 to 2024. These pieces, presented as a single installation, represent a poetic message to the future, blending aesthetics with imagination.
The garments, displayed on tailoring busts without scenic artifice, invite viewers on a journey through Yamamoto’s timeless and contemporary designs. The exhibition emphasizes his unique ability to deconstruct and reinterpret fashion archetypes, creating pieces that transcend time. Highlights include iconic designs like the faux-cul red silk coat from Winter 1986-87 and a grey wool coat from his latest collection.
Curator Alessio de’ Navasques notes Yamamoto’s blend of Zen spirituality with dramatic form, celebrating his impact on fashion and his message of universal, inclusive design. Tiziana Fausti expresses honor in hosting this forward-looking project by Yamamoto, highlighting its significance in Milan’s fashion scene after nearly two decades. The exhibition underscores Yamamoto’s continuous exploration of the relationship between body and garment, a testament to his revolutionary vision in fashion.
