13 years ago I interviewed Dries Van Noten for the 40th Anniversary of JOYCE

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Thirteen years ago, JOYCE commemorated its 40th anniversary, a milestone that allowed me the privilege of interviewing the myriad creators whom Joyce Ma introduced to China. Among them stood a perennial favorite, Dries Van Noten, whose stepping down today leaves me with a tinge of melancholy. While I rejoice in his new endeavors, I can’t help but reminisce about the timeless beauty he infused into our lives. Indulge me with a bit of nostalgia.

A decade ago, Dries assumed the role of President at ASVOFF7, with Caroline de Maigret as our Master of Ceremonies. It was an edition where we honored the legacies of Alejandro Jodorowsky and Claude Montana.

Further indulging in nostalgia, I found myself immersed in Tim Blanks’ reflections on BOF, recalling the unforgettable moment of Dries Van Noten’s Spring 2005 fashion show. As I read, memories flooded back, and I couldn’t help but feel immense joy at having been present for such a special occasion. Holding the gold-rimmed book gifted to us all, it truly felt like holding a precious treasure.
