Alexis Mabille applies elements of classic suit tailoring to avant-garde gowns, cocktail dresses, and playsuits. Mature silhouettes are interpreted in a youthful color palette, with delicate and sheer lingerie-esque fabrics that bring a sexy and youthful appeal to the collection. These looks are Mrs.Robinson approved; Both the junior and the senior.
Set at Christie’s, the show reads a bit like a deconstructed fundraiser auction gala. Models walk from one room to another with crystal wine glasses as if they were making the rounds or perhaps awaiting a refill. (Whoever wore that pastel bow mini dress definitely bid on a Murakami.) I can hear drawn out voices echoing- Darling, it’s been ages! Oh, where’d I get this old thing? I’d tell you but then I’d have to kill you! Ha ha!
A sparkling pantless tuxedo bodysuit evokes the image of a cocktail waitress serving endless champagne. Bold suit sets, lace boat necks, velvet dolman sleeves and a bedazzled empire waist conjure the image of high-powered, deep-pocketed women. Large floral button downs are reminiscent of silk pajamas and lingerie inspired outerwear hints at the end of the night when the the three tiered taffeta gown and spanx come off, and the lights are dimmed.
Accompanying the looks is a track of girls laughing over dancy runway music that becomes almost maniacal as the looks become more intense. A series of fire engine red silk pieces are presented in conjunction with a particularly infuriating loop of laughter- making an interesting commentary on the aesthetic interplay of femininity, power, and emotion.
