Dear Shaded Viewers,
Haute Couture collections are around the corner and Roxanne Lowit was always a fixture on the Paris Fashion Week both Pret-A-Porter and Haute Couture. Roxanne was my neighbour in New York when we both lived in the West Village. My downstairs neighbour, John Rynski, at the time was her assistant and introduced me to her. I imagine it was the mid 70’s and we stayed in touch ever since. She used to cover my fashion shows and later when I moved to Paris, we would always meet for lunch or dinner during Paris Haute Couture. I won’t be physically at the Memorial but I will be there in spirit. Roxanne was the first woman backstage photographer and had to fight for her place. She was adored by Karl Lagerfeld and Yves Saint Laurent and of course John Galliano. She did a great book on Dior the Galliano years however his scandal happened about the same time as the release of the book but that is another story for another time.
RIP
Later,
Diane
