Dear Shaded Viewers,
The Franco-Swiss Director that revolutionized world cinema has died at the age of 91. With his film “Breathless” he transformed the grammar of filmmaking. The film was shot with a handheld camera, something that just was not done outside of TV reportage. His films used long takes, jump-cuts and actors’ asides to the camera. Breathless was his most accessible film in his 50 year career. He was 29 when Brethless was released. Godard was considered the most influential member of the French New Wave. His biggest commercial hit was “Contempt,” starring Brigitte Bardot as the wife of script writer (Michel Piccoli).
