The depth’s of blue with Yumia Nakazato Haute Couture AW22/23 – text by Leticia Dare

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Into the blue we went with Yumia Nakazato for Haute Couture AW23. Like otherworldly avatar figures floating upon the sea and skies, we were transported into the depths of Nakazato’s personal reflections upon a blue world, both metaphorically and literally. Poetic and haunting the message was reflected using dead stock materials – burnt and frayed fabrics that resembled plastic waste in the ocean, shredded silks and pleated tie dye techniques as jellyfish and underwater creatures. The jewellery reminded me of gold and blue coral pieces, like fragments of the earth draped around model’s necks. Silhouettes were voluminous, hooded, and caped – some bird-like whilst others more traditional to Nakazato’s Japanese heritage with the use of deconstructed kimono shapes. Each look was powerful yet had a balance of softer elements that as a collection felt extremely personal, giving insight into Nakazato’s current view of the world and its state.

Later,

Leticia
