“Long live Virgil” at Louis Vuitton PFW SS23 – text by Leticia Dare

Dear Shaded Viewers,

It was playful, it was joyful, it was a celebration of life. In the words of Kendrick Lamar “Long live Virgil’. A sentiment that Kendrick repeated live whilst sitting in the crowd rapping over the musical score for the show curated by Benji B. A beautiful ending to celebrate the legacy of Abloh designed by his creative team.

It is the first collection and show to have been completed without his input and it did not disappoint. Ib Kamara styled the looks with impeccable flair which he has come to be know for – layered, detailed looks of oversized suiting, pleated skirts and detailed digital prints. The key hits of Virgil’s designs were still seen in the DNA of the collection with baseball jackets, moto styles, 3D paper plains on suits, LV logo embossed denim and tie dye looks.

As the live marching band of Florida A&M University followed the conceptual yellow brick road set at the Lourve it was a beautiful yet bittersweet ending with now the question on everyone’s lips, who will take the reign’s next?

Later,

Leticia
